Demo China 2007

Demo China 2007 was held on 9/6 and 9/7 in Tsinghua Science Park (http://www.thsp.com.cn/old/en) in Beijing, this activity is co-organized by Haidian District Government and CYZone (http://www.cyzone.cn/) (CY is the abbreviation of Chuang Ye which means entrepreneurship in Chinese). This is the 2nd time that Demo is held in China and my first time of attendance.

I only attended the 2nd day's activity on 9/7, and below are the startups that I found interesting. In China, especially in the internet section, there's very little technical innovation, normally we copy the business model from US and modify it to adapt to Chinese market.

Mailu (http://www.mailu.cn/) is working on the recommendation engine for other B2C web sites. After the user searchs some content using search engine, this recommendation engine will provide other links to content that the user might also be intersted in. As 35% of Amazon's revenue comes from such kind of recommendation engine, Mailu is providing such service to E-Commerce web sites in China.

RedBaby http://www.redbaby.com.cn/ (The biggest baby articles B2C website in China invested by Northern Light Venture Capital http://www.nlightvc.com/ and NEA http://www.nea.com/China), after using Mailu's service, RedBaby's flow increased 12%. There is still a long way to go from such flow increase to revenue. Mailu got No.2 in Domo China 2007. The Chinese page of their Demo presentation is at http://www.cyzone.cn/Forum/ForumDetail.aspx?PID=13708.

Another 2nd Life style company. MatrixLife (http://www.matrixlife.cn/) is a company based in Suzhou (near Shanghai), they digitalized the maps of Suzhou and Shanghai into 3D (using 3D game technology) virtual world on the internet. Their virtual world is the same as the real one, they want to establish on-line community based on real locations and they're looking forward to generate revenue from those POI based merchants in 3 ways: platform service, UI/Scenary advertisement and personalized customization.
