Cool Video Search Startup: Veveo

Veveo, based in Andover MA, has developed an innovative way for consumers to find and download web videos from “input-constrained” devices (ie, devices with small keyboards such as cell phones, Zune etc). They offer an “oh-so-simple-to-use” interface to consumers by replacing the usual cumbersome keyword search with a single character search. For example, a consumer wanting to find/download a movie by Martin Scorcese would simply type “m” on their keyboard. They would then be presented with a menu of everything that relates to “m”- several algorithms developed by Veveo order them in terms of relevance/current news/collaborative filtering etc. The other Veveo differenciator is that their search mechanism crawls the entire web – instead of just the obvious sites of TV producers and studios – thus bringing up hard-to-find content (such as independent productions). Veveo has patented a lot of IP for its character and all-web search. Company facts
